We lucked out and found a rare jewel being sold on eBay for salvage. This ravaged race car was one of four USAC Midgets built by master race car builder Ron Butler, the man behind Carroll Shelby’s Cobras and the 1967 Le Mans wining GT40 car.
Butler’s cars have dominated every genre of motorsports, and we now own a piece of racing history. We purchased this car as little more than a box of parts and a chassis. Through research and racing connections, more parts were acquired, and the people that used to crew this car were contacted.
Our goal is to get the car back together, using whatever we can find that is close to the original version. Along the way, we will source the correct parts and replace whatever substitute components we used. The car will be “raced” in a vintage car series and displayed at some of the racing events at local venues for others to enjoy. Follow along as we restore this car back to a Midget Masterpiece.
