Another great video from the Speedway Motors‘ toolbox features Joe McCollough and Kyle Vanover discussing how to properly install a 5-point harness. The harness combo includes two shoulder belts, a lap belt, and a sub belt. The combo can be mounted by wrap-around or bolt in. One of the major tips here is once the belt is properly installed, make sure to keep the excess belt from catching onto something else. This installation upgrades your race car in both safety and appearance.
The harness the “tech duo” are using is Speedway Motors’ 5-Point Harness Seat Belt Combo (Part # 910728) that features the latch and link system. It is a universal fit design and has a 16.1 SFI rating.
Kyle starts the video by explaining the product. “This is our affordable SFI rated, seat belt kit. And you have both shoulder harnesses, a lap belt, and a sub-belt.” Joe points out the harness is a pull-down style. “by pull-down, we mean as in you’d pull away from yourself to tighten yourself down on the lap belt and that only has to do with the lap belt.”
Speedway Motor’s 5-Point Harness Features And Benefits
- SFI 16.1 certification meets many sanctioning body rules
- 3-inch lap and shoulder belts and 2-inch anti-sub belt
- All 5 points can be mounted as bolt-in or wrap around
- High-quality nylon material with double stitched connections for added strength
- Latch and link clasp for safety and reliability
According to Joe, wrapping the belt is pretty easy once you know how. “That’s something that once you’ve done it once or twice, you know how to do it forever. Kyle’s been doing this for a million years, but if you’ve never done it before sometimes it’s a tricky thing to figure out.” Which is why the team created this video.
