The World Of Outlaws Independence Day Showdown After Night One

The one-of-a-kind World of Outlaws Independence Day Showdown Mega-Event began with a unique Elimination Showdown for both the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Models and World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars on Thursday night.

The event was designed as a reboot of the 2020 racing season, with full grandstands open and state-of-the-art coronavirus screening. Making it a one-of-a-kind event, this marked the first time in history the two Series are coming together in the middle of summer to race on the same days at the same track. The opening night results were simply … spectacular.

Ricky Weiss outran Cade Dillard in the final laps of the Late Model feature, only to fail post race inspection with an illegal quarter panel height violation. Weiss was docked three positions for the infraction for a Fourth place finish, making Cade Dillard the victor in the first-ever WoO Elimination Showdown at Cedar Lake Speedway.

“I feel like we’ve got a great car under our belts right now,” said Dillard looking ahead to the weekend. “As long as we can keep making the right adjustments, we’ll be good. We’ve still got a long way to go and there’s a lot of good cars here, but this is for sure about as confident as I’ve ever been. Our momentum will run out eventually, it always does, we just have to milk it as long we can.”
