It’s that time of year when Mother Nature as well as logistical issues are forcing racing tours to make adjustments to their schedules. Such is the case for the Southern All Star (SAS) Dirt Racing Series presented by MaxFab. The southeastern, based series has announced rescheduled dates, canceled events, and expanded weekends.
Like many series across the United States, weather has played havoc with the 2019 SAS docket. On the heels of a recent rainout experienced at Thunderhill Raceway Park (Summertown, Tennessee), the series has not only announced a reschedule date for that event, but also additional races.
Tennessee’s Duck River Raceway Park recently notified the series that it was cancelling the scheduled SAS visits on May 4 and June 29. As a result, the rained out program at Thunderhill Raceway Park on April 20 has been rescheduled for May 4.
In addition, an existing weekend on the 2019 SAS schedule has been expanded to be even bigger. On June 1 the tour will sanction the annual Mike Roland Memorial at Richmond Raceway (Richmond, Kentucky), which pays $6,000 to win. Added to that weekend is now a Friday night, 31 event at the venue, which is tabbed the Night Before the Mike, and will offer a $3,000 winner’s check.
The current slate now boasts 22 events for the 2019 season.
Thus far into the 2019 campaign, five events have been contested with five different winners. Neil Baggett, Casey Roberts, Brandon Overton, Ricky Weiss and Jonathan Davenport have all visited Victory Lane.
Mississippi’s David Breazeale leads the latest standings.
