With one event still remaining on the 2019 schedule, the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series have already released their 2020 slate. Next year’s campaign includes 16 races for the Southeastern series.
The tour will visit eight race tracks in a two-state area and will boast total prize monies in excess of $348,000. Perhaps the best news for competitors is the close proximity of the events. In fact, driver’s longest travel between any two race tracks is mere three-hour drive from Kentucky’s Ponderosa Speedway to Tennessee’s I-75 Raceway.
The Chris Tilley-promoted tour plans to release the details for the year-end points fund at a later date. Drivers, however, will be allowed to drop their worst finish at the seasons end. The tour will co-sanction with the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals and Schaeffer’s Oil Fall Nationals on select events.
The sixth season will open in grand style on Saturday April 11 with the largest paying event in the history of the tour. A visit to Gary Hall’s Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tennessee) posts a whopping $20,000 top prize and a $1,000 just to start the main event. The high-banked oval welcomes the tour to town on two more occasions in 2019.
Junction City, Kentucky’s Ponderosa Speedways returns to the docket for the first time since 2017 and will host a trio of races. Fellow Bluegrass State oval, Lake Cumberland Speedway (Burnside, Kentucky) has three events on tap as well.
Meanwhile, back in the Volunteer State, 411 Motor Speedway is set for three Iron-Man Championship races, including the Annual Leftover Race on November 28, which will once again serve as the season finale.
Additional events in the state of Tennessee include races at Wartburg Speedway (Wartburg, Tennessee), I-75 Raceway (Sweetwater, Tennessee), Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tennessee) and Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tennessee).
Former Series champions of the Iron-Man tour include Michael Chilton (2015), Tommy Bailey (2016), Carder Miller (2017) and Joey Standridge (2018).
The 2019 season for the tour will conclude on Saturday November 30 with the $5,000-to-win annual Leftover at 411 Motor Speedway
