PWRS: The Power Wheel Racing Series – 4 Classes For Kids

One of the greatest things we’ve seen this season is the formation of the Power Wheels Racing Series. Yes, you heard us right. Power Wheels… the kid’s battery-powered ride-on toys. Over the course of 34 years since these little vehicles first hit the streets of San Francisco, we’ve seen just about everything imaginable involving these toys.

Currently there are over 100 different model names in the Power Wheels line. Many feature scale versions of real vehicles like the popular Jeep Wrangler, Ford F-150, and even a Harley-Davidson motorcycle version. Leave it to a dirt track fanatic to incorporate these mini-vehicles into a racing series.

The Power Wheel Racing Series (PWRS) has its own Facebook fanpage which defines the purpose of the series: “We all love racing! I’ve decided to start this series for the kids to get started into dirt track racing! We will have 4 classes of racing. Stock and modified for ages up to 3, stock and modified for ages 4-10.”

Like any true dirt track racing series, there are rules, and we would imagine there are teams that try to live in the gray areas of these rules. It just wouldn’t be dirt track racing if teams didn’t push the boundaries of the tech rules. Fines for breaking the rules are scaled to the size of the vehicles as well. Upon a protest, $25 is collected from the racer and the protesting racer. If the “car” is found legal, the winning racer receives their money back and the other $25 will go to the series. If the protested car is found illegal, the winner of the protest gets their money back, the other $25 goes to the series.

The rules clearly state there is no push starts and no crashing into other racers. In the modified class (which sounds pretty cool for fabricators), racers are required to wear helmets. The modified car must have started as a Power Wheel but bigger motor or motors is allowed with a 72 volt maximum limit.

Current the series is looking for a sponsor or sponsors. To find out more about this series and where they race, check them out on Facebook at Power Wheel Racing Series – PWRS.
