As the racing industry gears up for a hard and fast return in the state of Michigan, Mike Blackmer is wasting no time at Tri-City and Merritt Speedways, launching an impressive weekend for Late Model drivers from all around the region. In an announcement made Friday via Facebook Live, Blackmer confirmed that the Lane Automotive-Allstar Performance Tri-City/Merritt Speedway Challenge Series Supported by American Ethanol will have their opening weekend starting on Friday, June 12th.
The series, which was born in part from the discontinuation of the American Ethanol Late Model Tour, was announced in January as a 10 race progressive payout format with a $10,000 championship prize at the end of the season. According to Blackmer, things are still mostly on track for that to happen.
“You know, I’ve really only lost one week of the Challenge Series,” Blackmer told Horsepower Happenings’, Zach Hiser. “June 13th was supposed to be our second show anyhow and I think I can make it up,” Blackmer concluded.
On the original schedule, the June 12th and 13th weekend were slated to be a $3,000 to win race each night. While the $3,000 payday is still scheduled for Tri-City’s race on Friday, Blackmer has said that Saturday’s race from Merritt Speedway will pay $5,000 to win. The rest of the schedule was originally expected to play out with July 24th and 25th, August 28th, and 29th and a pair of $10,000 to win affairs – Saturday, September 6th from Merritt Speedway, and Friday, September 12th at Tri-City Motor Speedway for season finales.
As for the $10,000 Championship payout, Blackmer says drivers can still count on that. “That’s the goal,” Blackmer simply remarked when asked about the Championship prize.
More information about the Challenge Series event and point payouts will be announced at a later date. Fans can stay up-to-date with the Lane Automotive – Allstar Performance Challenge Series supported by American Ethanol by liking and following Tri-City and Merritt Speedway on Facebook.
