The 2018 edition of the Magnolia State Cotton Pickin’ 100 at Magnolia Motor Speedway will see major changes. The mega-event will see a more fan friendly and racer friendly format for the Super Late Model division.
“This race has always seen the Super Late Model division compete in a two-day format, but myself and co-promoter Dewitt Singleton decided for this year to shuffle things up a bit,” track promoter Johnny Stokes said. “As a result, we are running a complete Super Late Model program on Friday night and a complete Super Late Model program on Saturday night as well. That way fans will get more bang for their buck and racers will get a chance to collect some cash each night. We’ve put together two really good purses that I think the racers are really going to like. We also moved some money around throughout the purse so that several guys can leave with some really nice paydays.”
The 2018 Magnolia State Cotton Pickin’ 100 will be held on Thursday-Saturday, September 20-22. After seeing an Open Practice Session held on Thursday, September 20 there will be a $4,000-to-win/$300-to-start, 30-lap finale on Friday night, September 21 for the Super Late Models, while Saturday night, September 22 will see the division competing in a $12,000-to-win/ $700-to-start, 70-lap finale.
For the first time ever, each night will see a full docket of time trials, heat races, B-Mains, and a main event for the Super Late Model ranks.
The early entry fee for the weekend is only $100. Super Late Model competitors have until Saturday, September 15 to file an early entry for the event. After this date, the weekend entry fee will be $150. Competitors must file an early entry by mailing a check to Magnolia Motor Speedway, 495 Highway 45 South, Columbus, MS 39701 or competitors can give Johnny Stokes (662-574-2572), Ben Shelton (901-335-3037) or any of the Magnolia Motor Speedway staff early entries.
In 2017, Georgia’s Brandon Overton picked up his first-career title in the event.
Joining the Super Late Models on the weekend’s docket are big events for the Durrence Layne Late Models, Durrence Layne Sportsman, the Mississippi Street Stock Series (MSSS), and Factory Stocks/Pure Stocks.
The Durrence Layne Late Models will be competing for a $3,000 top prize. MSSS Street Stocks will be competing for $2,000-to-win. Factory Stocks/Pure Stocks will be competing for $1,000-to-win, and Late Model Sportsman will race for $1,200-to-win.
