Let’s Get This Clear: Jones Racing Products’ Power Steering Fluid

For over 25 years Jones Racing Products have worked to establish themselves as leaders in the drive systems in racing. Company President CJ Jones has been personally involved in almost every aspect of racing, from Karting to Asphalt Modifieds, Northeast Crate Dirt Modifieds to the impressive Big Block Modifieds, he has experienced what racers demand for competition. Jones understands what optimal performance in racecars means.

Decades ago, race teams used excessive caster to help the drivers steer their racecars. While manual steering provided great track feedback to the driver, it also required a lot of strength to participate in longer races. Power steering systems become more advanced and companies like Jones Racing Products began to design power steering systems specialized for racing applications. With power assist, racing became more friendly to a wider range of drivers.

CJ Jones and his crew have invested years of research and development into perfecting their drive systems. “our team discovered that power steering pump performance relied on building systems with a solid foundation which allows the pump’s internals to provide excellent fluid control, pressure and flow curves along a wide RPM range,” explains CJ.

The latest advancement from the Jones Racing Products team is their Synthetic Power Steering Fluid. Another refinement by the manufacturer as they have perfected their own brand of power steering fluid which they claim exceeds all others in overall performance.

The new power steering fluid is synthetic, which means by the very nature of the manufacturing process, the molecules are more uniform and consistent. According to the team, this allows the steering system’s rugged demands to be met without fear of foaming or cavitation at the pump. Jones also says that it will not break down during long green flag runs at full operating temperatures.

The fluid is clear, which is pretty nifty to begin with, but it helps drivers and their crew to keep a watchful eye on the system with just a quick glance. Racers are able to spot any type of contamination in the fluid, helping to catch any problems with the rack, steering box or hoses. Catching one of these problems will protect the rest of the system and keep the car on the track and ultimately in victory lane.
