After a rousing success in 2018, the iRacing World of Outlaws Late Model World Championship returns for 2019.
The 10-race championship will see the world’s top dirt iRacing drivers battle for their share of a $25,000 purse. In addition, the winner will have the opportunity to drive a real-world Dirt Late Model with Clint Bowyer Racing at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway this fall.
“We’re really looking forward to the start of the iRacing World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model World Championship,” said iRacing.com President Tony Gardner. “Coming off an exciting 2018 season, as well as a thrilling Sprint Car World Championship that wrapped up earlier this year, we’re looking forward to the return of the Late Models as one of our most exciting World Championships of the year.”
Meanwhile, Casey Shuman, who has driven Sprint Cars and Midgets throughout his life and is now the series director for the WoO Late Model tour, offers his own perspective.
“It’s exciting to see a parallel of the real-world series playing out online,” Shuman noted. “The iRacing simulation provides a great way to build and hone skills — and introduce new people to our sport, both as drivers and as fans. Having grown up going to race tracks across the country, I encourage all the iRacing Championship competitors to come on out to one of our shows and take in the sights, sounds and smells.”
NASCAR star and Dirt Late Model team owner, Clint Bowyer has been a supporter of the iRacing effort since day one.
“I can’t wait to see who earns this year’s iRacing Late Model World Championship,” Bowyer commented. “It was awesome to be at track with Zach [Leonhardi] last year in Charlotte, and it’ll be exciting to see if CBR driver Casey Kirwan can take the top spot away. iRacing’s dirt racing is so realistic, and the competition level is so high, that it’s hard not to be glued to the action every week!”
