After sitting dormant for the past few seasons, I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN returned in a big way in 2010. The Speedway, which opened as a dirt track in the early 90’s, ran as an asphalt facility for many years before returning to it’s roots this past season. Although many in the dirt track community believed it was doomed to fail, the staff at I-94 did a wonderful job giving fans a great place to watch racing each and every Friday night.

The weekly bill featured six divisions of racing including WISSOTA Late Models, WISSOTA Super Stocks, WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, WISSOTA Street Stocks, Short Trackers, and Legends. On the strength of two feature wins and a consistent run of top five finishes, Mandan, ND driver Jeremy Keller picked up the track championships in the WISSOTA Late Model division. Brainerd, MN pilot Tim Johnson garnered top honors in both the WISSOTA Street Stock and WISSOTA Super Stock divisions while Lakeshore, MN gunner Dan Ebert reigned victorious in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified division. Dean Peterson of Upsala, MN corralled the track championship in the Short Tracker division with Matt “The Hammer” Hendrickson taking the title in the Legend Car division.

Along with the 14 regular events that took place at the Speedway in 2010, the 1st Annual “King of Dirt” gave WISSOTA Modified competitors the opportunity to take their first laps around the smooth and steeply banked 3/8 mile oval. With 46 of the best WISSOTA Modifieds in the country on hand vying for the $750 top prize it was Jamestown, ND driver Jason Grimes picking up the feature win in thrilling fashion via the extreme high side of the speedway.

After an unbelievable come back season in 2010 many are left wondering what the speedway and it’s staff can do for an encore in 2011? It has already been announced that the track will open once again in the spring of 2011 with a full slate of racing each and every Friday night. The staff at I-94 will reveal their plans for the 2011 season in the coming months allowing drivers and fans the chance to plan ahead.

I-94 Speedway’s 2010 awards banquet will be held on Saturday, November 20th at the Big Woods Events Center in Fergus Falls, MN. For more information regarding I-94 Speedway, plans for the 2011 season, and information regarding their annual awards banquet log onto www.i94speedways.com.
