Fans Add Sponsorship To 31st Annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals

Race fans and local companies are stepping up to the plate to add additional bonuses to the upcoming weekend’s COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Race Tires at I-30 Speedway. “I always say that I’ve got the best fans in the world, and they are definitely proving me right. It seems like every time I answer the phone or check my e-mail someone is wanting to add money or prizes to this weekend’s events,” track promoter, Tracey Clay said. “I can’t say enough about how awesome our fans and racers are.”

Kevin and Dana Newsom have posted a $41 bonus for the driver, who pulls the #41 pill in the draw on Friday. Steven Lassiter with Bulldog Construction Co. has now matched the bonus to increase it to $82. If no one pulls the #41 pill on Friday, then the $82 bonus moves to Saturday’s draw. The award is in memory of 2006 Short Track Nationals Champion, Jason Johnson who lost his life in a racing accident earlier this year.

The memorials to Johnson don’t stop there. Camron Taylor with Camron’s Upholstery has added $41 to the fifth-place finisher in Friday night’s feature. Tyler Combs and Combs Motor Speedway have added $41 to the seventh-place, feature payout on Friday night.

Brandon Young Photographer has added $141 to the winner of Saturday night’s 41-lap finale to bring the victor’s take to $10,141. Young will also provide the winner with a custom 30oz tumbler, while the runner-up and third-place finishers will each receive 20oz tumblers.

Saturday night’s $10,141-to-win finale will be 41 laps in honor of the late Jason Johnson, while Friday night’s $2,527-to-win, main event will be 27 laps to salute fellow Sprint Car racer, Greg Hodnett, who lost his life in a Sprint Car accident a few weeks ago.

Josh Howard has added $300 cash towards the recipient of the Josh Howard Determination Award. Each year this award goes to a driver, who shows heart and persistence in overcoming adversity throughout the course of the weekend.

This weekend – October 4-6 – the mega event comes to life at Tracey Clay’s I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Arkansas).

An Open Practice on Thursday night, October 4 will be followed by two full cards of racing action on October 5-6.

Both Friday and Saturday nights will feature a full card of heat and qualifying races followed by feature events.  The top 40 in passing points each night will advance to four qualifying races with the balance to “C” Mains.  Combined points from heats and qualifiers will set twin “B” Main and “A” Main lineups.

While there will be no lock-ins from Friday’s, 27-lap, $2,527-to-win preliminary, the top two drivers in combined passing/finishing points from Friday and Saturday heats and qualifiers will be awarded the 19th and 20th starting positions in the Saturday night STN championship finale.  The 21st starting position is reserved for 2018 I-30 Speedway track champion Ernie Ainsworth if needed.  Any driver not competing on Friday will be able to start no better than 11th in Saturday’s finale.

Saturday night heat races will each offer up $100 to win courtesy of Jenkins Fleet Services.

The top four in Saturday night heat and qualifying race passing/finishing points will compete in the Mike Pack Building Materials “Dash for Cash” that will set the lineup for the first two rows of the 41-lap STN championship finale.  The Dash will pay $500 for first, $250 for second, $150 for third and $100 for fourth.

The “Red Shirt Dash” in honor of Lanny Edwards for non-transfers will pay as follows: 1st – $400, 2nd – $300, 3rd – $250, 4th – $200, 5th – $150, 6th – $100.

No mufflers are required, open headers are allowed for this event.
