Late yesterday (5/14/2019), the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series Facebook Fanpage announced the news that master engine builder, and dirt track supporter, Jim Kuntz had passed away earlier in the day.
COMP Cams Super Dirt Series Facebook post:
It is with a heavy heart that we ask for your prayers for the Jim Kuntz family. Mr. Kuntz a long time supporter of the Series passed away suddenly this morning. Mr. Kuntz was our Rookie of the Year award sponsor for years until his retirement and was well loved and respected in the racing community. Please keep his family in your prayers during the coming days. Racing has lost a great man.
Jim Kuntz worked in the automotive dealer business for over 20 years, building race cars in his off time. He decided that his passion was in speed and he founded Jim Kuntz Racing in 1983. As the business began to take off, he changed the name to Kuntz & Co, as it is still known in racing circles to this day.
Jim won countless championships in NHRA, NMCA, NMRA, NFCA, and Dirt Late Model Championships with his engine building skills. While he gave up competition racing in 1996, Kuntz dedicated his time supporting his customers and friends.
His business was acquired by Gwatney Performance earlier this year, but Kuntz continued to operate the business and build the high performance engines that he had become known for.
OneDirt.com wishes to express our most sincere condolences and warmest thoughts to the family and friends of Jim Kuntz.
