The 12th annual Steve King Foundation Golf Tournament of Champions has been set for Thursday, March 14, 2019. The annual fundraiser will be held at Buffalo Creek Golf Club in Rockwall, Texas. Each year the event raises money for the Steve King Foundation, which is a 501(c) charity that helps racers and their families in times of need.
To date, the charity has provided financial assistance to more than 200 racing families, spanning different disciplines of the sport.
The foundation was created following the untimely passing of champion Sprint Car racer, Steve King during the 2006 Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway.
Steve’s career took off in the mid-1990s, when he began winning races at tracks throughout the Midwest. His consistency earned him Top-10 finishes in the standings on the National Championship Racing Association (NCRA) circuits in 1995, 1996 and 1998-2006. Steve was the 2002 and 2003 NCRA 360 c.i. Sprint Car Champion. He was the runner-up in 2004 and placed third in 2005. In 2006, he was posthumously awarded the ninth-place trophy. At the time of his death, Steve was the second most-winning driver in NCRA history.
Steve was in the second year of his sponsorship with Ethanol/ICM at the time of his death. The sponsorship was a perfect fit; teaming Steve’s farming background with the promotion of a fuel alternative. One of Steve’s goals during the 2006 season was to qualify for the A-main at the Knoxville Nationals. It was a feat he had attempted several times but had yet to achieve. Steve won his heat, setting a new 10-lap record and was running 16th in the qualifying feature at the time of the accident, which occurred on the white flag. Had Steve finished the race, he would have reached his goal.
Each year races and charity events are scheduled around the country to raise money for the foundation. The annual Steve King Foundation Golf Tournament of Champions has become an annual tradition This year it will serve as a prelude to the annual American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) Spring Nationals at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.
Holes for the event can be sponsored for $250. Sponsorships allow companies to place a sign at one hole on the course. For $500 companies get a sign at a hole plus a banner at the banquet.
The Hole-In-One Grand Prize for this year’s outing is a whopping $10,000.
The top-three finishing teams will receive prizes. In addition, there will be course contest prizes and great door prizes for racers and non-racers.
A banquet and barbeque dinner will be held in the Buffalo Creek Club House, immediately following the golf tournament. During the banquet, there will be an action as well as raffles for $4,000 in golf prizes long with racing products.
