The search for traction on the dirt tracks across our great nation often leads dirt track teams to try a variety of shock combinations. At PRI 2012, we stopped by and caught up with the folks from QA1 Motorsports where they had a number of new products for the 2013 season.
QA1’s Marshall Feger started off by showing us their new 51 series rebuildable twin tube shock. “The 51 series is an update to our popular 50 series,” explained Fegers. “We took the 50 series and made a brand new body, stronger bearing mount, and increased the diameter for increased gas bag clearance.”
- 51 series twin-tube
- 20 series sealed monotube
- 23 series sealed stock mount monotube
- 16 series aluminum monotube
Fegers explained to us that the monotube VS twin-tube debate will always rage between drivers, “We want to offer what our drivers want,” Fegers told us. “Mono-tube provides a larger diameter piston, that can react a little quicker than a twin-tube. But a lot of drivers still love the feel of a twin-tube, it gives them more of a precise feeling. They can feel every bump and rut on the track, and a lot of drivers like that.”
One of the best things about the sealed shock options from QA1 is the fact that you can custom order the shock with any combination of compression and rebound. QA1 will build the shock, valve it, seal it, and ship it race ready for your team.
Before we left the booth they also stopped and showed us their complete rebuildable ball-joint line that is available as a screw in ,press in, or bolt in styles. The ball joints help fine-tune where the roll center of the front end is.
