When it comes to performance, two words always come to the surface: lighter and stronger. This is especially true when it is in the hands of COMP Cams engineers and valve train components. New this year is COMP’s bushed solid roller lifters in the Race XD line.
“These are built with removable and replaceable pushrod seat cups,” said COMP’s Jay Adams. “They accommodate the centered 5/16-inch or 3/8-inch ball pushrod, or if you need extra clearance, we offer special seats to allow for that as well.”
Among the many features in this new lifter is an oiling system that ensures consistent roller wheel and axle lubrication. The proprietary bronze alloy roller wheel bushing and oversized captured link bar that connects to the individual lifters provide the strength characteristics of the roller lifter. COMP’s REM-finished lifter bodies help create an extra smooth surface to reduce bore wear, but an optional DLC-coated lifter body is available to help minimize friction even more.
These are currently available for standard bores in small- and big-block Chevrolets, with the small- and big-block Fords coming out shortly, and Chrysler to follow.
According to Adams, the new Race XD Bushed Solid Roller Lifters replace the Elite line of lifters. “We took all the features that people liked in the Elite line and rolled it into this lifter,” said Adams. “We took it the extra step to make it much lighter, much stronger, and even more durable than even the Elite lifters were.”
