Bacon Opens 2019 Oval Nationals With Wire-To-Wire Win

In what could be described as a very predictable finish when you put Brady Bacon on the front row in pole position, the “Macho Man” led from wire-to-wire at the 2019 Budweiser Oval Nationals opening night. Windom appeared to have a couple of shots at Bacon but was able to draw side-by-side to mount a serious challenge.

C.J. Leary set fast time in qualifying, showing why the Reinbold/Underwood team is leading the USAC National points standings this year. Justin Grant, Tyler Courtney, Damion Gardner, Charles Davis, and Chris Windom won their heat races. Max Adams won the Semi-Feature on his return to the Southern California oval.

Following Thursday night’s event, Windom sits in First in the Oval Nationals point standings. He earned additional points after qualifying fifth quickest and winning his heat race to accumulate four more points than feature winner Brady Bacon in the standings.  Damion Gardner is in Third, Richard VanderWeerd claimed Fourth with Series points leader C.J. Leary in Fifth.
