Tim McCreadie Wins North/South 100 From Deep In The Field

Doing it the hard way, Tim McCreadie finished second in B-Main #2 to earn himself the 20th starting position in the feature. From deep in the 28 car field, T-Mac worked to the front on lap 88, holding off all challengers to capture the $50,000 first-place purse. This is the second-time McCreadie has won the signature event.

Green Flag

The race started with Chris Ferguson and Jimmy Owens fighting it out from the front row. Josh Richards took a quick look down low, then dropped back to watch the front two battle for position. Owens used the high line momentum to win the front spot coming out of turn three.

Overton moved into second behind Owens before a couple of quick cautions made for a stop/start situation. First Mike Marlar stopped on the track with a flat bringing out the yellow. Then Stormy Scott ended up backward in turn one on lap 13.

The top five were content to run the bottom of the track finding the last precious little spots moisture for traction. A few brave souls were trying the top line looking for an advantage.

Owens and Overton entered lap traffic about a third of the way into the race, with Overton attempting to challenge Owens without success.

Jimmy Owens led laps 1 to 27, then again from lap 30 through 87.

A restart on lap 31 grouped Owens, Overton, and Ferguson together when the green dropped. Moving to the middle, Ferguson was able to take Second away from Overton.

Another caution on lap 37 brought the field back together again. Owens jumps to the lead with Overton retaking second from Ferguson. The top is beginning to come in for those racers that were running the high-side.

High Side Comes In

Ricky Thorton Jr. started to use the top-side momentum to make passes, catching Ferguson cleanly for the pass on lap 41.

Near the halfway mark, a caution comes out when Pierce has a right rear tire issue. On the ensuing restart, Overton gets back by Thornton for second with Owens still leading going into the midway caution flag.

After the halfway caution, Owens jumps to the lead with Thornton Jr. recapturing second running the extreme high line. A handful of laps later, Thornton Jr. battles Owens for the lead as Owens runs the middle of the track.

Thornton Jr. bounced the right rear off the cushion causing some damage on the right side. When a piece of sheet metal drops off Thornton Jr.’s car, a caution flag is waved to remove the debris from the track.

Owens and Thornton Jr. battle for the front spot, exchanging positions for several laps. While these two are fighting it out, McCreadie has driven through the field to catch up with the two front runners.

McCreadie Enters The Battle

A handful of cautions at the three-quarters mark aids McCreadie’s progress as he is able to launch on the restarts. Driving deep into the corners, McCreadie takes over second and begins to challenged Owens for position.

McCreadie and Owens rub and race for several laps with Owens using the bottom line and some newfound traction to get a burst out of the corners. He continues to lead with McCreadie pushing the effort through lap 85.

With 15 laps remaining, Owens and McCreadie are side-by-side, swapping sliders at every set of corners. McCreadie finally gets by Owens and begins to open a gap as he cruises to the win.
