Shane Cottle Throttles To Win At Indiana Sprint Week Opener

Starting from the 18th position, Shane Cottle drove his way to a photo finish win to open the 2019 Indiana Sprint Week at Gas City Speedway. The win was one of the closest in the history of USAC open-wheel racing. Timing from car transponders showed C. J. Leary in the Reinbold/Underwood 19AZ car as the winner. USAC’s Chief Scorer and USAC’s Race Director conferred and agreed that Cottle’s 2E Epperson car’s front wheels crossed the start/finish line before Leary’s.

Getting to the dramatic finish, Cottle had to carefully work his way through the tough field of drivers. With a handful of laps remaining, he worked the bottom line with Leary riding the rim. The last lap surge helped complete the push for the finish line as “The Throttle” earned his third career USAC National series win. All three of his series wins have taken place at Gas City.

The next stop for the National series during Indiana Sprint Week is Plymouth Speedway on July 19, 2019.
