In the last decade, the Kokomo Sprint Car Smackdown has become one of the most anticipated events in the USAC National Championship Series. This year’s edition of the event, the eighth year of existence, was rightly named Kokomo Sprint Car Smackdown VIII. 

OPENING NIGHT:

The event started with a special non-points race on Wednesday, August 21 labeled #GYATK Night. Justin Grant drove his way to the win by leading Brady Bacon and C.J. Leary across the line.

Thursday and Friday nights are qualifiers for the Saturday event. Both nights feature a qualifying session followed by heat races and semi-features and a $5,000 to win the main event. Points are awarded per standard USAC scoring format for each evening.

SATURDAY FEATURE:

Saturday’s Sprint Car Smackdown VIII feature night promised $10,000 to the main event winner. The format for the feature night was slightly different than the previous qualifying nights.

The top 8 in points were locked into the feature event and participated in a special “King of the Hilll” match race (1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5 with winners advancing in bracket format) in order to establish first four rows of feature.

King Of The Hill First opening round:

  • #8 qualifier Kyle Cummins (#3R) defeated #1 qualifier Justin Grant (#4).
  • #4 qualifier C.J. Leary (#19AZ) defeated #5 qualifier Chase Stockon (#32). 
  • #3 qualifier Thomas Meseraull (#47) defeated #6 qualifier Logan Seavey (#19s). 
  • #2 qualifier Tyler Courtney (#7BC) defeated #7 qualifier Kevin Thomas, Jr. (#19).

King Of The Hill Semifinals:

  • #4 qualifier Leary defeated #8 qualifier Cummins.
  • #2 qualifier Courtney defeated #3 qualifier Meseraull.

King Of The Hill Finals:

  • #2 qualifier Courtney defeated #4 qualifier Leary.
