On June 12, the Great Lakes Super Sprints (GLSS) pulled onto I-96 Speedway for their opening night of the 2020 season. Jared Horstman, the 2017 GLSS Champion, held off all chargers to lead from wire to wire to take the checkered flag in an exciting A-Main.

Thankfully, 26 cars made the call to race, despite the sketchy weather forecasts. Jay Steinbach took the first official lap when qualifying started. 2019 Rookie of the Year, Conner Morrell took the first heat race win to transfer to the A-Main. Max Stambaugh, Dustin Daggett, Dan McCarron, and Devon Dobie also transferred to the A-Main.
The 2016 GLSS Champion, Chase Ridenour, won the second heat race and automatic transfer to the A-Main with Jared Horstman, Phil Gressman, Kyle Sauder, and Jay Steinbach. Heat three saw Andrew Scheid dominate the field with Gregg Dalman, Ryan Ruhl, Linden Jones, and Danny Sams advancing to the A-Main. Quentin Blonde won the B-Main with Eli Lakin, Josh Shantz, Andy Chehowski, and Justin Ward earning a second chance to compete in the feature race.
The top two finishers in the heats redrew for starting positions with the remainder of the field was set by their finishing positions in their respective heat races. Horstman pulled pole position and led the 20 car field to the opening flag. The race settled in with Horstman in the front, followed by Dalman, Stambaugh, Ridenour.
Stambaugh was able to pass Dalman for second on the outside, where the top three ran comfortably until lap 20 when a debris caution came out. Despite another opportunity to get a drop on the leader, Horstman grabs the front spot and appeared to be heading for a win until the yellow flag came out prior to the white flag, prompting another restart – and another opportunity for the hungry Stambaugh, Dalman, and Ridenour to take the lead.
Getting the green flag once again, Horstman held off the field for 2 more laps, giving him his first feature win of the 2020 Season.
