The Summer Nationals’ Hell Tour rolled into the Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Indiana, on June 24, after a week filled with racing in “Legends Week.” Tuesday and Wednesday’s races at Belle-Clair Speedway and Jacksonville Speedway were rained out and Thursday’s Spoon River Speedway event was postponed to June 25. By the time the crews got to Tri-City Speedway on Friday, the stage was set for all-out war over the weekend.
Ryan Unzicker notched his first win of the 2018 Summer Nationals with Billy Moyer claiming his second win of the tour on Saturday at Fairbury Speedway in Canton, Illinois. The tour moved back to Tri-City Speedway on Sunday where Shannon Babb continued to stake his claim on the Series Championship by winning his fourth tour event in 2018.
With rain looming, the track promoter Tom Helfrich skipped some of the heat races so that the feature event could start earlier, hopefully to beat the rain. The compressed schedule worked and the show was able to run the full distance. Babb started fifth in the feature and drove his way to the front on lap 13, passing Tyler Erb and holding off the field for the remaining 27 laps of the 40-lap DIRTcar Summer Nationals event.
Feature Finish: Shannon Babb, Tyler Erb, Billy Moyer, Brian Shirley, Rusty Schlenk, Timothy Culp, Jason Feger, Frank Heckenast Jr., Chase Junghans, Gordy Gundaker, Bob Gardner, Nick Hoffman, Paul Stubber, Brian Diveley, Bobby Pierce, Tanner English, Trent Young, Matt Santel, Daryn Klein, Jeremy Sneed, Rusty Griffaw, Chuck Hummer, Kent Robinson
The DIRTcar Summer Nationals travels back to Spoon River Speedway for a make-up of night 3 of Legends Week.
