At the opening night of the 2014 Chili Bowl the popular pick to take home the victory was without question Kyle Larson. Coming off two straight years of preliminary night victories, Larson made a valiant charge to the front during the main event but settled for fifth. Driving the Hard 8 Racing’s number 8J, Jonathan Beason accumulated the most passing points Tuesday evening and started from the pole during the main event.
Beason jumped out to an early lead and quickly closed in on lap traffic. At first he tried a diplomatic way of passing the lapped cars, but after being held up for a couple laps he realized it was time to go and started pulling slide job after slide job on the traffic. On more than one occasion during the video you can see the second place runner of Zach Daum.
Beason not only maneuvered his way through the traffic he survived a very close call coming to the checkered flag to stun the crowd. In victory lane he dedicated his victory to his former teamate and friend Donnie Ray Crawford who was tragically killed nearly two years to the day.
Ride along with Beason through the entire main event by watching the above video. Action for the 28th annual Chili Bowl continues all week and culminates with the main events on Saturday. Don’t forget you can watch the main events live this Saturday evening on MavTV.
