Dirt track racing is a very exciting sport. The action that happens on the track is what keeps us coming back time and time again. But sometimes it’s the dark side of motorsports that gather a lot of the attention – the accidents.
The crashes are just the nature of the beast, drivers are battling for every inch on the race track and sometimes these types of accidents just happen. Take for instance what the folks at Discovery Channel highlighted in their program destroyed in seconds.
The accident occurred at Williams Grove Speedway when Scott Zellers ended up taking a wild ride that sent him through a metal fence and finally stopped crashing 800 feet from the track. Zellers and the camera man that was hit by a tire were fine, but the same couldn’t be said for the sprint car that was junked.
This isn’t the only time a sprint car has left Williams Grove Speedway, last year we highlighted Kasey Kahne’s scary flip at the exact same venue.
Let these types of accidents serve as a reminder to all of us on how dangerous racing can be. Make sure that you or your loved ones that strap into a car use all of the latest safety gear and utilize a head and neck restraint system!
