The finale of the 30th Annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek sanctioned by the All Star Circuit of Champions did not disappoint as fans were treated to a thrilling race for the win. When the dust had settled at Fremont Speedway there was a familiar face standing in victory lane as the veteran Dale Blaney brought home the $10,000 win. However, it did not come easy for Blaney as he started in the tenth position and waited until seven laps to go in the 50 lap feature to get around race-long leader Bryan Sebetto for the win. It was Blaney’s sixth All Star Circuit of Champions win of 2012 and his 90th overall series win to pull within 8 victories of all-time feature win leader Kenny Jacobs. The win also continues his season sweep of all four All Star shows at Fremont this season.

After the big victory Blaney said, “Shaff’s kind of owned this place the last couple of years and he still runs really, really good here and to beat him and sweep both of them here for Speedweek and add the Memorial Day weekend sweep…we kind of finally found Fremont again. The track was awesome you could run any where you wanted to. My car was really good when it gets like this and George and Troy and Bobby, Rick and Junior and all the guys they put it together and I just drove it.” Tim Shaffer would get around Sebetto as well in the closing laps to cross the line in second place. Shaffer was followed by a fading Sebetto in third, Shane Stewart in fourth, and Stevie Smith rounding out the top five.

With the fifth place finish Stevie Smith claimed the Ohio Sprint Speedweek points title by nine points over Schaffer. It was the veteran Smith’s second Ohio Sprint Speedweek title since he first won the title in 2009. After being crowned champion Smith said, “I owe it to my guys. They’ve had me a consistent, good race car. This is great for the team. I wish this was a 100 lapper. I wish we were a little bit better and we could have gotten up there and raced with them. We tried our best and we did our best and it just wasn’t good enough.” Dale Blaney would come home third in points who was followed by Sebetto in fourth and Greg Wilson rounded out the top-five. The All Star Circuit of Champions will return to action on July 18th at Brewerton Speedway in New York and fans can find more information on the series at www.allstarsprint.com.
