Update: Kody Swanson’s Condition Following Violent Crash in Hut 100

Indiana is a hotbed for Open-wheel racing, it produces some of the best drivers, racing, and unfortunately crashes. 23 year-old Kody Swanson was competing in the 59th annual Haubstadt Hut 100 over the weekend where on lap 83 Swanson’s #19 entered into a violent set of flips that has left him in Evansville, Indiana’s St. Mary’s intensive care unit.

Swanson crash brought the red flag out, while he had to be airlifted from the event. “They said I was knocked out in the car, and I vaguely remember getting into the helicopter.” Swanson said during an interview with Doug Kufner. ” No racing for three months, I am hoping to go watch my brother’s race at Indianapolis this weekend. But for me, just as having another shot at everyday life…” Swanson was visibly fighting back tears as he trailed off.

Our own Andrew Wolf was at the event and snapped this photo from his phone of Kody being loaded up in the helicopter.

Swanson a California native, is hoping to head back home soon. As for his condition, Jordan Swanson (his wife of three weeks) put a post on the team’s Facebook page regarding his condition:

“Kody is alert between naps and has his cute n quirky personality shining through. Head Condition: he has a sml fracture by his left temple and also a chip in the bottom of his scull where it sits on the 1st vertebrae. Both will heal completely on their own with time and tlc. X-rays from his neck came back outstanding w no issues whatsoever. He can take the brace off if he wants, but currently feels more comfortable with it on. Neuro surgeon came by and said he’s glad that we don’t have to see him anymore because kody is doing great. Thanks for all the concerns and prayers, they are surely working!!! Keep them coming”

From all of us at OneDirt.com we would like to wish Kody a speedy recovery!
