Scott Bloomquist took his Reece Monuments #0 Sweet-Bloomquist Race Car/ Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model to Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Victory Lane for the first time in 2018 on Friday night. He led all 50 laps of the $12,000-to-win, Buckeye Spring 50 at Ohio’s Atomic Speedway.
“We had a good night. We started out good in qualifying and the rest of the night the car was just awesome. The track got pretty slick and blacked off. At the end I just decided to set it high and let it sail. The car got through traffic pretty good. All-in-all I can’t say enough about the car and engine combination. Everything was great. This Sweet-Bloomquist car was sweet tonight and the Andy Durham Engine ran perfect. It was another good points night.”
With 30 entries on hand the 54-year-old racer earned the outside-front-row starting spot for the finale after winning his heat race. He grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag. After fending off challenges from Don O’Neal and Tim McCreadie, Bloomquist stretched his advantage in the closing laps to score the win. O’Neal, McCreadie, Brandon Sheppard, and Jonathan Davenport completed the Top-5 finishers.
With Saturday night’s LOLMDS event at Brownstown Speedway (Brownstown, Indiana) washed away by Mother Nature, the team headed to Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway (Jamaica, Virginia) to compete in the Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth event. The $20,000-to-win, Ultimate Super Late Model Series event drew 56 entries to the sprawling oval, and via preliminary action Scott earned the outside-front-row starting spot for the feature.
With fellow-front-row starter Jonathan Davenport grabbing the lead at the drop of the green flag, Bloomquist battled in the Top-3 throughout the event before staging a late-race charge for the top spot. He would come up just a little short with a runner-up finish behind Davenport. Chris Madden, Tim McCreadie, and Brandon Overton completed the Top-5 finishers.
