Quarter Million Dollar Pursuit

Racers across the United States and Canada have their GPS settings zeroed into FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway. Over the course of the next ten days the racy bullring –  located just outside of Phoenix – will play host to the 12th annual Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout.

While Super Late Models, United States Racing Association (USRA) Modifieds, and X-Mods will all share the big stage, there’s an undeniable focus that is placed upon the giant carrot that is being dangled in front of the Super Late Model pilots.

For the third-straight year Keyser Manufacturing is sponsoring the Keyser Quarter Million Challenge. The brainchild of the Michigan-based company, this bonus program offers racers the potential for a season-changing deposit into their bank accounts. Best of all it comes less than three weeks after the calendar clicked over to a new year.

“You’ve had a really good year if you can win $250,000 in a season in Dirt Late Model racing,” veteran racer Mike Marlar commented. “To accomplish a feat like that in January is pretty insane when you stop and think about it. That’s definitely my focus right now.”

If a driver can win all six events contested during the 12th annual Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout, he will receive a cool $250,000 prize. This comes in addition to the $37,000 in first-place earnings, which would also be accrued.

If a driver can knock down five wins, a $100,000 prize will be awarded, while a four-win performance results in a $25,000 bonus.

New for 2018 is a $10,000 bonus for a three-win performance.

No driver has been able to claim any of the bonuses in the first two years of the program. However, Jonathan Davenport was a three-time winner in 2016, while Bobby Pierce won three of the first four events in 2017 before Mother Nature selfishly stole the final two rounds.

A talented cast of characters, including Mike Marlar, Bobby Pierce, Brandon Sheppard, Ryan Gustin, David Breazeale, Clint Smith, Don Shaw, Terry Phillips, Ricky Thornton Jr., Ricky Weiss, Chase Junghans and dozens of others will look to take their best shot at claiming the coveted payday.

The 2018 running of the Wild West Shootout will see complete programs contested for all three divisions on January 6, 7, 10, 12, 13, and 14.

If you aren’t lucky enough to attend, fear not as you can still watch possible history being made on the nightly live pay-per-view from the event. The pay-per-view will air at www.DirtOnDirt.com.
