The former track employees combine their talents and take over as promoters of the half-mile dirt oval, which moves its regular race night to Saturday and opens with the April 7-8 Cellan Motorsports Spring Shootout.
IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts run for local track points through Aug. 26.
“We’re excited about the upcoming season. We’re getting down to crunch time but we’ve been working out there all winter,” Kastner said. “More than 150 truckloads of dirt was added last year and we’ll have the track widened by mid-summer.”
“We’ve been working on new fencing and barricades. The ladies’ restroom and the concession stand have been remodeled and we’ve used a lot of paint,” he added. “We have new sponsors and new signage. The change in race night has been well received by drivers and fans and we know from registration that we’ve already gained 10 new cars.”
Modifieds at Fairmont will be part of IMCA’s Sidebiter Chassis North Central Region. Stock Cars are in the EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region, Hobby Stocks in the Big Daddy Race Cars Northern Region.
“We like IMCA’s rules,” Kastner said. “They keep it fair for everybody.”
Kastner had previously been in charge of concessions and advertising at Fairmont. Andringa, also a former crew chief for a local race team, worked trackside.
“We’ve both been around racing for a long time,” said Andringa. “We’re looking forward to a good season and good car counts.”
