New Droop Rule Is No Challenge For Shane Clanton At Tri County

On Friday night Shane Clanton showed the racing world that the new droop rule was no big deal. With the much-discussed new rules making their debut, Clanton took his Weldbank Energy #25 Super K Express/ Capital Race Cars/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model to Victory Lane at North Carolina’s Tri County Race Track.

“I don’t know what to say about this Ray Cook,” Clanton said of the Southern Nationals Bonus Series promoter who debuted a new “droop” rule at Tri-County. “He’s trying to be the innovator of the sport for safety and put racing back in our hands. It’s pretty exciting to come and win a first race with the chains on (to restrict the expansion of the car’s left-rear suspension). We’ve had some really good runs to start the year and now we have a couple of wins to show for it. Hopefully that success translates into point’s racing when that fires back up next week.”

Friday night saw Shane Clanton travel to Tri-County Racetrack (Brasstown, North Carolina), where he entered the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series sanctioned program. After laying down the fastest time in qualifying, Clanton topped the 21-car field in the feature to capture his second win of the season and a $3,000 payday. Ricky Weiss, Casey Roberts, Shawn Chastain, and Jamie Oliver completed the Top-5 finishers in the 40-lap affair.

The following night Clanton stopped at Senoia Raceway (Senoia, Georgia) for the regular night of racing. In a field of 15 Super Late Models, Shane locked his spot into the feature with the fastest time in qualifying. Battling with Michael Page for the top spot throughout the event, Clanton ultimately landed a runner-up finish in the 30-lap A-Main behind Page with TJ Reaid, Austin Horton, and Zach Leonhardi rounding the Top-5.
