This past weekend Watsonville, California’s Ocean Speedway hosted the 2nd annual Pat Pettit Memorial. The two-day event became the richest modified purse on the West Coast with a $10,003 to win and $503 to start feature event on Saturday night. During the event the track announced that next years edition of the Pat Pettit Memorial will have a boost in purse at $15,003 to win.

Over sixty of the top drivers in the state and 2012 IMCA Super Nationals Champion Jeff Taylor were on hand for the ground breaking weekend. Olivehurst, California’s Ryan McDaniel started the feature event from seventh place and worked his way forward moving past Nick DeCarlo for the lead. Once in front, McDaniel went uncontested for the biggest win of his career.

“This is a great place to race,” McDaniel said. “All of us owe the Pettits and the Speedway a big thank you for the opportunity to race for this kind of prize money. Usually, we have to travel 1,500 miles or more to race for this kind of money.”

Local Brian Cass would come home 6th after setting the quickest time in qualifying.
