Fans of the famed Eldora Speedway will have to wait one more week as a strong set of storms has pushed back the 59th annual season opener for Eldora Speedway.
The Sunoco American Late Model Series, UMP DIRTcar Modifieds and Eldora Stock Cars were scheduled to kick off the 51st season, but now the USAC Border Wars will usher in the 2012 season for the fan favorite half-mile.
Official Release:
Season Opener Pushed to April 21 with USAC Sprints
ROSSBURG, OH (April 14) – Early morning showers, combined with incoming strong storm fronts have forced a cancellation of the scheduled 2012 season opening event for the Sunoco American Late Model Series, UMP DIRTcar Modifieds and Eldora Stock Cars Saturday evening at Eldora Speedway.
The track crew had worked hard all week to prepare an ideal racing surface for the three division program but Mother Nature failed to cooperate.
With the cancellation, Eldora’s 59th season opening event has been moved to Saturday evening, April 21 featuring the United States Auto Club (USAC) National Sprint Cars, UMP DIRTcar Modifieds and Eldora Stocks. That event will begin the 51st consecutive year of USAC racing at Eldora. Stan Bowman captured the first such event in 1962 and Bowman family members will be on hand to celebrate that accomplishment.
Complete information, including ticket and campsite purchases, may be found on the track’s website www.eldoraspeedway.com or by phone at (937) 338-3815.
