I have been told that there is a rules meeting at Perris on Oct 24 @ 3pm (before the next race). I don't know what the exact topics will be. There may be some discussion about a sport mod class, common rules for other classes and schedule. I like that it is being done early. Could be promising. CD

Rules, rules, rules, for those that don't know me, My name is Hap and I have been racing a 78 nova(#61) for the last 5 years here in so-cal ( street stock/hobby stock),best I've done is finish second to Curtis in points at Perris in 07' of which I'm really proud because Curtis and the other drivers at Perris do make you earn it. Over the years I spent way to much for 'race motors" from independent shops that didn't hold up and when they went they went big and left little if any reusable parts. I shopped around and bought the "602" chevy 350 cu. in. circle track factory crate engine, it isn't all that on power, but the reliability is second to none, the down side is I've had to miss a lot of races at other tracks, Perris is my home track, vortex heads are legal there, but most others don't allow vortex heads except for open events. There is talk about VAR opening up the rules to vortex heads, but making you re-drill the heads to accommodate a different manifold ( not worth it to me ). So earlier this year I bought a camaro at the beginning of the year, it was already gutted and caged, really pro job, don't know who fabricated the chassis, but I was told out of Tx. It was never finished by the guy who bought the chassis, he moved on to mods. My plan was to build a new car and sell the old car, see if I could do better in a chassis some one else built ( I built the nova ),and was waiting to see how the rules play out for 2010. So, (this might not be to popular on this sight ) I've decided after much research to build the camaro to race at "Irwindale"...... yes, we're going pavement racing, I have always wanted to try it, and the car, the motor, trans and rear-end are all legal in the super stock division, actually the "602" is the spec motor for the class......I like it because the rules are very spelled out. Headers by part#, shocks by part#( the same cheap "Pro Shocks" we run in street stocks, tubular uppers and they limit the amount of tires you can buy per year.....Lastly, it's about 20 minutes from my shop.... I'll still have my nova, and I'm putting my "old" motor back in it, that motor came out of an old 'Frito Lays" delivery truck, they pull them out at 100,000 miles good or bad, I get the long blocks 200 bucks each So the "NON" vortex #61 nova ( with dents and pirate flag) will see you all at Perris and Var next year.....( last dirt event for the "602" is the Turkey.)

I'm not quitting dirt track racing Bobby, I still have my Nova, and with the other engine I'll be legal at VAR and Perris next year, I'm not giving up on Curtis working with both tracks to get us scheduled to run at both facilities, I'd love it if he can put together a "North Vs South" with the street stocks similar to the EvW they have for the supers up north. I'll run my "Dirt Forum" members sticker on the pavement car ........

Well it based on what I heard in the meetinng it sounds like Don (Perris Promotor) is interested in working with Mike at VV to make the Street Stock (SS) rules and the factory/american stock rules common for both tracks. I don't know what the rules would be but they aren't that far apart right now for either class so it shouldn't be that big of an issue. He indicated that we would like to work with VV on the SS schedule as well and maybe even have a couple of races at VV that count as points races for Perris (and visa versa). Don mentioned a sport mod class but hadn't made a decision. Don indicated that the Factory Stocks may get some sort of purse next season. The fate of the sport compact class seems to be up in the air. I asked about Late Models for '10. He said he didn't know. Don also indicated that the front gate prices would be lower for '10 but indicated that the back gate prices and purse would not change. There were a lot of people there. We'll see what happens.

All very positive. A dual track Championship would be very cool. Great for the racers, great for the fans, great for the tracks. This is pretty much a win-win-win deal.
