I was able to sit in and listen to a gathering of track promoters this past week and one of the topics was "how many classes you should run each night". It was interesting to hear the banter back and forth. What I walked away with was; you shouldn't try to have too many classes, and run too many classes each night. The fans get confused or get bored.

That made sense to me. The track promoters have to worry about how many different classes they allow each year.

All I know is: I'm glad I don't have to make those kind of decisions.

Promoters that tell you not to run to many different classes have divisions with more then 20 cars each in them. When all you can get is 4 to 8 cars you need to run more classes so your show will run at least three hours long. No one gos to the races to see small car counts. Mike great idea..But heres the problem. If all your doing is running a trophy class then don't charge any entry for that class. The pit pass cost alone will pay for the trophy.. Keep cost down make it fun...Whats that old line..Build it and they will come. If you can build a car for under 800 bucks and it only cost you a pit pass and gas to race people will be more open to do it. Just my two cents worth.

Hey Mike, lets make a deal. I like your idea for the new division BUT how about if anybody comes to race under the age of 18, they race in this division regardless of the type of car they havejust as long as its a 4 banger? That way it will add more cars (when they do show up) and I dont have to worry about being taken out by 13 yr old 3 ft tall gnomes. Just a thought.

I'm in favor of driver's licenses required for any division that allows a car to be modified from it's factory specs. Nothing's worse than having a kid that has no concept of how much things cost ramming you when they overdrive. And, it sucks when you have to worry wether or not their parents are gonna come after you for anything that happens on the track. The only reason that year jr's and Sr's were combined worked is because we had a good group of kids out there. They were very consistant so we knew what to expect out of them. We had mutual respect for one another. The kids from other tracks tend to be more of the "oh well, mommy and daddy will buy me a knew one if I break it." type.

Charlie does have a point, the extra cars would give the division more audience appeal. Make it a jr/ econo class. Not necessarily a bad idea. And it would keep the 6'-2" Ogres from wanting to clobber the 3ft gnomes.
