Default The Best of the Best

Everyone has their home track. There is always a racer who comes along and finds that "edge" needed to dominate. It may be for one year, it may be for five years. I would like to get your guys input on who your "Best of the Best" is. Tell us a tale that you witnessed that proved why, that season, that person WAS the best of the best!!!

Lets get away from that negative thread.

I am going to pass over my brother for this one. It's not that I don't think he's the best SS driver of the past 5 years, but anything I say about him will be regarded as favortism for obvious reasons. But for the record I do believe he's the best SS driver at VV in the past 5 years or so, and would bet on him in any race to win. I'd also bet a top 3 finish in a sport mod his first time out.

My Best of the Best, has to be Seth Wilson, Sprint Car Driver at Victorville. That man can drive a sprint like nobody's business. Now I know your saying "You mean those push em and flip em cars?", nothing is more frustrating then watching 20 cars idle around under yellow.
Seth is different. If he's caused a caution, I'd be surprised. I have seen him more consistantly run WFO around Victorville Lapping nearly the whole field. He's a pleasure to watch run, and that's what I think makes a Best of the Best driver. When he goes into a corner at 90mph, and YOUR stomach churns a little, Well that my friend, is a sign of a Great Driver.

How About You?

Guys, cmon' I said 1-5 years as in HOW MANY YEARS they dominated. Like Roger Gordon. Yes Jesse' Unlcle Roger. Man raced street stock for soooo many years hardly ever losing.

One of those "moments" k-dawg was Roger racing, was in second, got spun, kicked it into reverse, was in fourth, passed a car, flung it back around and ended up winning the race!!! Thats dominance bro. I would have loved to seen him go against your bro. THAT woulda been a race to watch. I would have to put my money on Roger though.

I dont want to know just about Victorville. I want to know about all tracks everywhere. From North Carolina to Florida to dang Guam. There are legends out there that need to be shared.

well if were going to talk about dominance there iz no way we can forget about.................the one the only........Jimmy George.

from all american through super streets he racked up rookie of the yearz and championshipz through them all. oh yea he got friendz into it too. guess what? yep they were all badazzez too. his kidz were in sport compact . and guess what? ya you got it dominance. his group would bring anywhere from 3 to 7 cars everynite.

if you raced at rt 66 during that era you raced against an A-ACTION car unless you had a modified. and if you beat one of these cars the feeling was awesome, because they truly set the standard from which all others were guaged. and you better have stepped up something on your car every week because they did!

Jimmy George you are responsible for myself and many others I'm sure constantly looking to better ourselves and our cars.

I miss you man! I learned more from you than you will ever know. thankz

I remember the whole A-Action team. Although I never met any of them personally, I have very fond memories of Grandma. She raced all american while my bro was learning. I must be truthfull here and say that I rooted against her, but I always loved it when she would give my brother fits.
from a fan perspective, I think it great to have the ones you root for, and the ones you root against. It's just the same as rooting for the Dodgers vs the Broncos. I never wished any ill towards her, I just didn't want her to beat my bro. (normal right?)

From a driver perspective, I will never forget the time I saw ( I think it was Jimmy George) win either his first race..or his first of the year. I remember seeing the joy in his eyes (I was on the fence in the pits) thinking I'd like to be there one day. Ironically, through some very fortunate circumstances, I was able to get into that position in that very same car.
I always rooted for him, because I watched him get consistantly beaten by the other car (whom I believe was Jim Abright). The joy and excitement in his face is something I will never forget.

On topic of the Best......I failed to mention Rick Arringdale. he raced before my time, but I know the history. From the story I know, He built his car to win at VV then stepped it up to the 1/2 mile at Perris, and if I am not mistaken, he won Championships at both. I like the story I heard about Why he got out of it, but I don't think it's my story to tell. I know he still comes out to VV, It would be neat to gather these past champions for a race one day.

Now I know what your all thinking and that is that I'm going to choose my Uncle. Well of course, haha, because I remember when I was 8 years old watching him race to 3 consecutive Championships against the always brutal, Funkhousers, lol yes that is their last name for those who know, they were our rivals. He is the one who inspired me to become a race car driver, and to continue on the Family Legacy. Now this is only my first year of racing but I plan on doing this for many years to come and watching My Uncle Roger in the #10 Street Stock was one of the most exciting moments of my entire life!!
