Every time we drive a car, we are literally floating on a cushion of air. The air trapped in our tires is an integral part of the suspension. It helps absorb bumps and irregularities in the road. The pressures in the tires of our daily driver are adjusted to suit the conditions we drive in.

With the front suspension dialed in and ready to go, our bomber stock Camaro was ready for some serious AFCO Racing help in the rear. Past experiences had left us wanting more. Our driver was finally getting into the corners hard enough to move the the rear end around in the chassis and we were experiencing incomplete races due to extreme parts failures like bent shocks. Our friends at AFCO Racing assured us that we were going to be alright. Leaf spring chassis had been around for years and AFCO had the experience to help us fix the problems. We set our goals with this project car to install and tune our leaf springs for victory lane. After this, it was all going to be on the driver to get us there.

A dirt track street stock race car is hardly refined. Compared to the ultra-sophisticated late models or sprint cars, the bomber stock type dirt track cars are prehistoric. Where chassis in the other classes are purpose built, the bomber stock chassis is generally a twenty to thirty year old street car using twenty or thirty year old technology. Figuring out how to make that aging technology get the most traction on a wet dirt track is the key to being successful. This is where many race teams fail. Our dirt track project car, Madd Maxx is a perfect example of old technology, so we decided to modernize and upgrade the suspension system with some cutting edge technology from AFCO Racing Products.

No matter what type of racing you do, tires play a big role in the overall handling of the car. Tires act as part of the suspension and absorb many of the irregularities that your typical dirt track has to offer. They are the only means to transfer the power from the engine to the track and are relied on to keep the car traveling in the direction it is pointed. We help you pick out the right rubber for your track.

Alright! Got a real treat coming….I’ve been dying to get some hardcore tech articles up concerning chassis set up and the time is coming soon. And…..let’s be honest here, Our dirt track race car needs all the help we can give it. So, what we decided to do was get together with some friends at Intercomp and Afco and give MAXX a little bit of tender loving care, starting with suspension upgrades and chassis set up.
